60-minute original documentary chronicles Chinese-Canadian civilians recruited to join the covert mission, Operation Oblivion during the Second World War
Narrated by actor Colm Feore (Revolution, The Borgias), the film pairs archival images and modern animation to convey the gripping story
TORONTO (January 13, 2014) OMNI Television and Media Monkey Productions Inc. today announced the broadcast details of Operation Oblivion, an original documentary telling the story of 13 Chinese-Canadian civilians trained by the British Secret Service (MI6) during the Second World War.
Operation Oblivion premieres Sunday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. ET on OMNI.2, 8 p.m. PT on OMNI BC, and 6 p.m. MT on OMNI Alberta
The one-hour film follows Henry ‘Hank’ Wong who, after a lifetime of sworn secrecy, reveals the identities of his fellow Oblivion members, and the daring plan that positioned them to train Resistance fighters behind Japanese enemy lines. Narrated by celebrated actor Colm Feore (Revolution, The Borgias) Operation Oblivion uses images taken by Wong and combines them with award-winning animation sequences to bring this incredible story to life.
“We were compelled to tell this story of 13 men who volunteered for a ‘suicide’ mission all on the chance that post-war they could gain full citizenship rights in Canada for their families. It is amazing that any of them survived and even more remarkable that Hank has images to document their courage and valor,” said director Jeff Halligan.
Operation Oblivion garnered a 2013 Platinum Pixie Award from the American Pixel Academy for Best Animation in a Documentary Film.
Operation Oblivion is executive produced by Peter Starr, produced by Micol Marotti and Bradley Lee, and directed by Jeff Halligan. The film was funded and developed in association with OMNI Television, a division of Rogers Communications, the Government of Canada’s Community Historical Recognition Program, and produced with the participation of the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund.
