Canadian spy story “Operation Oblivion” launches on NFB’s CAMPUS

Learn more about Operation Oblivion on the CAMPUS website

Media Monkey Productions Inc. announced today an agreement with The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) to make Operation Oblivion, (an original documentary telling the story of 13 Chinese Canadian civilians trained by the British Secret Service (MI6) during the Second World War) available to schools nationwide on their online streaming service CAMPUS starting in November, 2014.

CAMPUS is the NFB’s subscription-based online streaming service for educators. With more than 4000 available films, CAMPUS offers tools for creating chapters and playlists that can be shared with students. Launched in 2012, CAMPUS is accessible to more than 4 million students in Canada. Operation Oblivion will launch on the service in early November as part of school activities planned for Remembrance Day. Launch events will include an online chat with the last surviving member of Operation Oblivion using the Twitter hashtag #OpOblivion.

“The NFB has been a trusted source, working with educators to shape curriculums for more than 60 years. It is a privilege to have been selected as part of CAMPUS and to have the opportunity to make millions of students aware of the courageous acts of these men, and their important contributions to Canada’s war effort in the Pacific,” said producers Micol Marotti and Bradley Lee.

Operation Oblivion follows Henry ‘Hank’ Wong who, after a lifetime of sworn secrecy, reveals the identities of his fellow Oblivion members, and the daring plan that positioned them to train Resistance fighters behind Japanese enemy lines. Narrated by celebrated actor Colm Feore (Revolution, The Borgias) the film uses images taken by Wong and combines them with award-winning animation sequences to bring this incredible story to life.

Operation Oblivion garnered a 2013 Platinum Pixie Award from the American Pixel Academy for Best Animation in a Documentary Film and a 2014 Telly Award for Best History/Biography Documentary. The film had its broadcast premiere on OMNI 2 earlier this year.

Operation Oblivion is executive produced by Peter Starr, produced by Micol Marotti and Bradley Lee, and directed by Jeff Halligan. The film was funded and developed in association with OMNI Television, a division of Rogers Communications, the Government of Canada’s Community Historical Recognition Program, and produced with the participation of the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund.

Operation Oblivion Wins 2014 Silver Telly Award for Best Documentary Film

Media Monkey Productions Inc. announced today that the documentary film Operation Oblivion garnered the 2014 Telly Award for “Best Documentary Film”. Winners of the 35th edition of the awards were announced in New York City earlier this week. The Telly’s are adjudicated by a prestigious panel of international industry experts who award Silver (the highest honor) and the Bronze Award for the best films, videos and commercials of the year. The approximately 12,000 entries received made this year one of the most successful and competitive in their history.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the Telly Awards amongst so many great documentaries showcased this year. Winning this prestigious award means so much to both our production team and to the brave Veterans whose courageous stories we can now share with international audiences,” said director Jeff Halligan.

In the house

Operation Oblivion petition is in the House!

MP Rick Norlock (Northumberland-Quinte West) will present the petition on Friday, April 4, 2014 during 'Question Period' in the House of Commons beginning at 11 AM.

The petition asks the Canadian Government for a permanent exhibit in the Canadian War Museum to honor the Operation Oblivion operatives who risked their lives in the jungles of the Pacific to serve Canada, and in the process freed hundreds of POW's during WWII.

We thank the thousands of Canadians who, in a few weeks of the broadcast of the documentary film on OMNI 2, signed the petition pledging their support! Canadians care about their Veterans! Thank you Rick Norlock for your support!

During the coming months we plan more readings in the 'House' and we ask Canadians to continue our mission at www.operationoblivion.com/join-the-mission

We hope this step will bring us closer to recognizing these Canadian War Heroes!
